In 8 days we are going to explore Uzbekistan from different angles. Firstly, we’ll enjoy the unique nature of the country — we’ll spend time walking in the mountains, breathing fresh air, and relaxing on the shore of the lake. Secondly, we’ll travel through three magnificent cities, each of which has its own charm, and immerse ourselves in the history of ancient civilizations.

It’s time to experience the famous oriental hospitality! We’ll visit a Samarkand family and cook the original Uzbek pilaf, watch the work of talented craftsmen and, of course, communicate a lot with local residents.

We will travel by a rented minibus or a car, and stay in cozy family guest houses and small 3* hotels. From May to September, we will also spend one night in traditional yurts. It will be exciting!

The greatest impressions of the trip are:

  • green streets of the capital,
  • bright mosaic of Samarkand,
  • light walks in the Nurata mountains,
  • a night in a yurt camp and folk songs by the fire,
  • Aydarkul Lake on the edge of the hot desert,
  • antiquities of Bukhara,
  • authentic oriental bazaar,
  • colorful traditional dance show,
  • pilaf cooking master class,
  • and many other experiences!

Meeting in Tashkent sightseeing tour around the capital

We’ll meet in Tashkent (see the "Place and time of the meeting" section) and set off to get acquainted with the colorful and noisy capital of Uzbekistan. In 1966, the city was hit by a serious earthquake, and most of the old buildings were destroyed, but the charming oriental atmosphere, green streets, and modern architecture make Tashkent very attractive for tourists. We’ll walk along the Broadway Alley, known as a favorite spot of the creative youth, see the Navoi Theater, named after the great Timurid poet Alisher Navoi, and many other interesting places.

Samarkand first encounter with the city

Today we’ll find ourselves in an oriental fairytale with colorful mosques, luxurious bazaars and historical landmarks. Samarkand is one of the oldest cities in the world, it was founded in the 8th century BC and became a significant center along the Silk Road. We’ll get to the city by a high-speed train. The journey will only take a couple of hours.

On our first sightseeing walk around Samarkand, we’ll visit the famous Registan Square, see the Ulugh Beg Observatory, the Guri Amir mausoleum, and other iconic sights. In the evening, you’ll have some free time to walk around on your own and get dinner at one of the restaurants.

Samarkand: oriental bazaar Shah-i-Zinda necropolis culinary master class

In the morning we’ll visit the oldest bazaar of Samarkand — Siab. The stalls here are bursting with juicy fruits, and the aromas of spices are stupefying. You can find anything you want! However, the main purpose of coming here is not for shopping, but for the unique atmosphere of oriental market.

Then we’ll stop by the village of Konigil, which is famous for the workshops of Uzbek artisans. The main attraction here is the paper mill, which produces durable paper from the mulberry bark.

We’ll continue our route to the Shah-i-Zinda complex, where representatives of royal and noble families are buried. The mausoleums are decorated with bright mosaics, which shine in the sun like real jewels.

In the evening we’ll take part in a culinary master class: the experts in Uzbek cuisine will teach us how to cook the authentic national dish — pilaf.

Trekking in the Nuratau Mountains Lake Aydarkul

We’ll spend the day in the majestic landscapes of the Nuratau Mountains. In the morning we’ll arrive in the village of Hayat and start off on an easy hiking route. On the way, we’ll enjoy breathtaking views of mountain ridges and valleys. If we’re lucky, we’ll meet one of the rare animals in the Nuratau Mountains — Severtsov’s sheep.

In the afternoon we’ll continue our way to the edge of the Kyzylkum Desert, where Lake Aydarkul is located. We will stop for the night in an exotic place — a yurt camp. Get ready for one of the most unusual sunsets in your life: we’ll climb a sand dune and see how the sun slowly sets over the horizon, coloring the sky and the sand in pink tones. Then we will have dinner and gather by the fire to watch the performance of an aqyn — a folk poet and singer.

From October to April, the weather on Aydarkul gets cold, so instead of the lake at this time of the year we’ll check into a guest house in the mountains, where we’ll communicate with the locals and learn more about their traditions and way of life.

On the way there, we’ll stop by the city of artisans Gʻijduvon, famous for its ceramic products. We’ll watch the work of talented craftsmen and buy some authentic souvenirs.

Bukhara: sightseeing tour evening show

Samarkand and Bukhara are so different in many ways, and you will immediately notice it. Bukhara is smaller and cozier, and due to the distance from the capital, innovations come here later, which means that traditions are preserved longer. And they also say that the most sincere and friendly people in all of Uzbekistan live in Bukhara.

A very dynamic sightseeing tour awaits us: we’ll visit the ancient Ark Citadel, the Samanid Mausoleum, the Kalyan and Maghoki Attori mosques, the Bolo-Khauz complex. We will also see the famous trading domes.

In the evening we’ll enjoy national music and dances at a folklore show.

This was our first experience of traveling abroad with Strannik. We have long wanted to visit Central Asia and took a tour to Uzbekistan, because after traveling in the Caucasus region we were very pleased with the organization and still have pleasant impressions and memories of these trips.

The trip to Uzbekistan turned out to be bright and sunny, like the country itself. Thousands of color photographs, a sea of smiles and pleasant fatigue. Mountains and cities, ancient history and modern technology, sandy steppe and turquoise lake, sunrises, sunsets and a shining crescent in a star-strewn sky. A week at the Wanderer’s place is always close to a whole month of impressions) It was interesting, welcoming and very tasty!

Thanks for everyone at Strannik for your work and incredible positivity! With you, we can safely and reliably go on new adventures!
