The group meets in the city of Oslo. When everyone arrives, we will get together, introduce ourselves, and go for an evening walk. Oslo is situated in a beautiful area, surrounded by lakes, rivers, and emerald-colored mountain ranges.
Today, we will continue our exploration of the capital city of Norway. After breakfast, we'll take a stroll around the city center, visiting the Cathedral, City Hall, Opera House, Parliament House, and Royal Palace. Later, we'll head to the Vigeland Sculpture Park, also known as 'the garden of people' because the main attraction is a collection of stone sculptures of various people. The stone images can provoke a range of emotions: admiration, surprise, and even disgust.
In the evening, we'll travel to Lillehammer, a town located near Norway's largest lake, Mjøsa. We'll stay overnight at a cozy hotel near the beach.
After breakfast, we'll head towards Geirangerfjord, also known as the main pearl of the Norwegian fjord necklace. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The journey is long, but the route will take us through some very scenic places. We'll drive through coniferous forests, with their purest lakes and rivers. We'll see emerald hills and snowy peaks along the way. On the way, we'll stop to fully experience the beauty of these places. We'll walk along a verdant carpet of herbs, dip our hands in icy waterfalls, find berries on mossy ground.
Approximately halfway through the journey, we'll make a stop in Lom. There, we'll refresh ourselves with sweet buns and admire an ancient stave church, a cultural marvel of Norway. These churches were built in the 10th to 13th centuries from wood and adorned with intricate carvings.
Later in the day, we will descend the famous Trolls Staircase, a road with sharp bends, passing along the slopes of a deep valley.
In the evening, we will reach Geirangerfjord and stay overnight in a cozy cottage on the shoreline.
In the morning, we will take a ferry excursion along the Geirangerfjord. We will sail through a narrow bay past steep cliffs and noisy waterfalls.
Then, we will leave for Ålesund, a small town known for its concentration of Art Nouveau architecture. According to its architectural style, it proudly stands on par with famous cities like Barcelona, Vienna, and Brussels. Norwegian people love Ålesund and consider it the most beautiful city in their country. We will walk through the picturesque center streets and try Norwegian fish soup at a local fish restaurant.
And then, we will drive across the iconic humpback bridges to the edge of the Scandinavian peninsula, where the ocean rages. We will explore the island of Runde, as well as the bird market, which is especially busy from April to July when 230 different species of birds, including the so-called “sea parrots” — puffins, gather here.
The main attraction of the day is the beautiful Briksdal Glacier. Its bright colors will leave you speechless for sure! Imagine: in a rocky gorge a bright blue glacier breaks into a green valley, with an emerald-colored lake, and above it the sky of the same blue shade, with a dazzlingly bright sun.
We'll spend the night in cozy houses near the glacier. After dinner, we can stroll around and visit the local sauna.
Today we will take our time and spend the day in the valley. Everyone can find something to enjoy: walk to the waterfalls, search for mushrooms, go kayaking or boating on the lake, read a book or just rest.
After breakfast, we will head to Loen. There, we will take the skylift up to the top of Mount Hoven, which towers over the Nordfjord. From there, we can enjoy a stunning view of the sun-drenched valley, as well as watch the paragliders soaring through the sky.
Afterward, we will continue our journey to the town of Sogndal, where we'll have the opportunity to visit the Norwegian Glacier Museum.
We'll spend the night at a hotel in Sogndal.
In Norway, Sogndal is called the jam capital. This means that we will start tasting jam as part of our breakfast. Here, you can try jams made from cloudberries, cranberries, strawberries, lingonberries, and blueberries.
After that, we will have a ride on a ferry, go through the Lærdal Tunnel (the longest in Europe!) and arrive in the village of Flåm. From there, our fjord cruise will start: we'll cruise along the Nærøyfjord, Aurlandsfjord, and Sognefjord. The latter is called 'the king of fjords' because it's the deepest and longest in Norway.
Later in the day, we will depart for Bergen and take a walk along the famous Bruggen embankment. We'll also stop by the fish market to take a look. The variety of fish and seafood is so appealing! Gourmets should like it :)
We will spend the night at the hotel.
