Head of the region

We’ll set off to explore Patagonia — an extraordinary region stretching across two countries, Argentina and Chile. Here you’ll find UNESCO-listed national parks and legendary world-class trails that wind through rugged mountains and enormous glaciers, surrounded by remarkable nature and rare plants.

An experienced Russian-speaking guide will lead us along the route, revealing not only the natural beauty but also the history of the region. No visa is required to visit Chile and Argentina. The tour is suited to active travelers in good physical condition who are ready for a long flight and lengthy transfers. The program includes three intensive treks (18–23 km with elevation gain), while the remaining days feature easy walks and drives. We’ll stay in reliable, comfortable hotels.

In 10 days we will:

  • Visit El Chaltén — the world capital of trekking
  • Meet the majestic Perito Moreno Glacier
  • Hike a route in Los Glaciares National Park with views of Fitz Roy
  • Climb toward Cerro Torre and see a glacial lake
  • Watch colorful birds on Lago Argentino in Laguna Nimez
  • Admire waterfalls, volcanic lakes, and glaciers in Torres del Paine National Park
  • Trek to the famous Three Towers
  • Relax on the shore of the Pacific Ocean
  • Try Argentine “cowboy” cuisine and Chilean seafood
  • Stroll through Buenos Aires — the city of tango and football

Flight to El Calafate Laguna Nimez

In the morning we take a domestic flight to the small town of El Calafate, which has become a popular tourist destination in Argentina thanks to its proximity to Los Glaciares National Park and its many glaciers. After checking into the hotel, we’ll head to the shore of the country’s largest lake — Lago Argentino. During a walk along the windy shore of Laguna Nimez, we’ll see many birds nesting on the coast and finally meet Patagonia.

Los Glaciares Perito Moreno Glacier El Chaltén

Today we set off for one of the most famous glaciers — Perito Moreno, nearly 30,000 years old. This unique natural site is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Scientists note that in the era of global warming it is the only one that resists climate change and does not shrink in volume.

We’ll reach the glacier by high-speed boat. Eco-trails have been organized around the glacier for convenience; the guide will show the best route so we can enjoy views of this giant from every side. If we’re lucky, we’ll witness a section of the ice wall calving into the water. In the evening we transfer to El Chaltén, where new adventures await.

Ascent toward Mount Fitz Roy

Today is a day of active hiking. The route follows the scenic Lago de los Tres trail, offering stunning views of valleys, cliffs, rivers, and lakes. We’ll stop at several observation points to take in the surrounding nature. During the hike there will be a chance to see Lake Capri, whose water has a unique turquoise hue.

We’ll also see the region’s most iconic landmark — Mount Fitz Roy. Although it is not the highest peak (3,405 m), climbing it is one of the most dangerous ascents on the planet. The reason is the unstable climate: strong winds and precipitation can force climbers to wait a long time for good weather.

The hiking routes total about 22 km with 800 m of elevation gain. For those who prefer a less intensive day, there is an easier route with up to 400 m of elevation gain.

Hike to Cerro Torre

Today we set out on a relatively easy hike toward the summit of Cerro Torre. For many years this peak remained inaccessible to climbers, and its impregnable appearance earned it the nickname “the needle.” A film titled The Cry of the Stone was even made about the difficulties of climbing this remarkable summit. At the foot of Cerro Torre awaits a unique glacial lake crowned with icebergs of the most varied shapes and sizes, creating a breathtaking landscape.

Transfer to Chile

Today we have planned a journey to the shores of the Pacific Ocean, as our route takes us into Chile!

After morning preparations and breakfast, we head toward the town of Puerto Natales, located on the scenic Last Hope Sound. Along the way we’ll watch the Argentine steppes gradually give way to the emerald landscapes of Chile, with all these natural transformations unfolding right before our eyes. After arrival we’ll have free time for walks and rest, followed by dinner at a restaurant featuring local cuisine.

Scenic walk in Torres del Paine National Park

For two days we’ll immerse ourselves in exploring Torres del Paine, one of the most breathtaking national parks on the planet. Today will be an easy day with scenic walks to the park’s key sights. We’ll enjoy mesmerizing views of mountain peaks, rivers and lakes, the sky-blue tones of glaciers, and endless valleys with guanaco pastures.

Among the places we visit will be Salto Grande waterfall, the volcanic Lake Amarga, and the glacial Lake Pehoé. In addition, another amazing spectacle awaits us — a natural air tunnel created by air currents along the shore of Lake Grey. And as a pleasant bonus — a cave that was home to giant milodon ground sloths about 10,000 years ago.

Trekking in Torres del Paine National Park

Today we set out on a hike along a scenic route of about 20–23 km with roughly 750 m of elevation gain. The trail features unusual terrain — much of the way we will climb large stone steps. The final point of the route will be the Three Towers and the lake — the main landmarks that gave the park its name.

For travelers who prefer fewer intensive routes, there is an alternative path that does not climb to the towers. On this route the elevation gain is about 375 m.

At the end of the day, we return to Puerto Natales for the nightt.

Return to Buenos Aires – city exploration – farewell dinner

In the morning we return to Buenos Aires. Then we’ll take a walk around the city and get to know its rich history, culture, and traditions. Strolling the streets, we’ll encounter a variety of architectural styles that reflect the country’s history and development. If possible, we’ll watch street performers and dancers who will add color to the trip. In the evening we’ll arrange a farewell dinner at one of the restaurants, during which we’ll share our impressions.

Place & time of the group meeting:

Arrival:

You need to arrive in Buenos Aires at Ministro Pistarini Airport (EZE) on the first day of the tour between 12:00 and 16:00 local time. At the airport, outside the arrivals area, a guide will meet you with a “Strannik” sign and arrange the transfer to the hotel. The guide will have a list of your phone numbers and flight numbers, and you will have our contacts, so you will be able to reach each other if necessary.

If you arrive at a different time, you will need to get to the hotel on your own by taxi; the cost of the transfer will be reimbursed by our Club. We recommend arriving no later than 20:00.

If you arrive early in the morning or the day before, please let us know and we will check the possibility of arranging an additional booking or early check-in at our hotel.

Departure:

The program ends in Buenos Aires. You may purchase return tickets for any flights departing the day after the tour ends. Check-out from the hotel is by 12:00; transfer to the airport and departure are on your own.

Tickets:

Group meeting at Ministro Pistarini Airport (EZE) in Buenos Aires from 12:00 to 16:00 local time.

We recommend booking flights that arrive by 15:00 local time. Please inform the manager in advance which flight you plan to purchase tickets for.

Domestic flights

Tickets for the domestic flights on the route Buenos Aires – El Calafate – Buenos Aires are purchased separately. Tickets cost from $300 per person (the price depends on the chosen date). The baggage allowance on domestic flights is up to 15 kg. If your baggage exceeds this weight, you will have to pay extra. Please check the details of ticket purchase with your coordinating manager.

Departure:

The program ends on the evening of Day 10 in Buenos Aires. You may book return flights departing the next day at any time. Check-out from the hotel is by 12:00; transfer to the airport is independent. You can get to the airport by taxi; travel time is about 1 hour.

ATTENTION! You may purchase tickets only after the manager confirms that the minimum number of participants has been reached and sends you the confirmation. Most of our departures are guaranteed to take place; however, we recommend not buying tickets until coordinated with the manager.

Examples of accommodation:

El Chaltén, 3* hotel

Weather:

From December to March, it is summer in Patagonia, but temperatures in the city and in the mountains differ greatly. In Buenos Aires it is very warm, with daytime temperatures from +25°C to +29°C.

In the mountains the temperature is much lower (it can drop to +5°C) and, most importantly, it is very windy; precipitation is possible.

Swimming is possible, but the water is cool: 10–14°C in the lakes and 12–17°C in the Pacific Ocean.

Requirements for tourists:

This route does not require special tourist training; however, participants must be in good physical condition and have some trekking experience. You need to be prepared for several intensive treks (up to 25 km per day with up to 900 m of elevation gain), as well as two 8-hour car transfers.

Participants aged 14 and older are allowed on the trip.

Visa & currency:

Currency:

The official currency is the Argentine peso. It’s better to bring money in dollars or euros — we’ll exchange them for pesos on the spot. We recommend bringing dollars no older than 2008, as older-design banknotes are exchanged at a less favorable rate, and damaged notes may be refused altogether. Withdrawing cash in local currency from foreign bank cards usually comes with an unfavorable exchange rate. Your guide will advise you on the most advantageous way to exchange cash dollars and euros.

Other documents:

It is necessary to have a return ticket with you in electronic or printed form.

Required personal equipment:

The checklist #52 will help you prepare for this trip.

Travel features:

Insurance

For entry into the country you will need medical insurance covering trekking at altitudes up to 3,000 m. A separate policy is required for each country (Chile and Argentina).

Meals

The tour price includes all hotel breakfasts, 2 lunch-box lunches on trekking days (days 4 and 8), and 1 lunch (on day 7). All other meals are paid for separately.

Since this is a group tour, the food is the same for all participants. Unfortunately, we cannot prepare an individual meal for you.

If you have an intolerance or allergy to any of the products, please notify the manager in advance. We will pass this information on to the guide or accommodations. However, we kindly ask you to follow up on this matter during the trip. If you have strict dietary restrictions, we recommend bringing suitable food with you or buy it on the spot.

In case of poor weather conditions (severe wind, rain, etc.) or other unforeseen circumstances the itinerary may be changed.
