We’ll meet at the hotel in Tbilisi in the afternoon. After some rest, we’ll go for the first walk around the city. We will wander along the narrow streets, visit Rustaveli Avenue with its multiple shops, theaters and museums, see the Freedom Square and charming houses of the Old Town.
In the evening we’ll take the cable car up to the Narikala Fortress, the best viewpoint of the city. Evening Tbilisi in magical lights is especially beautiful. Then we’ll have dinner in a cozy restaurant and head back to the hotel.
Early in the morning we’ll take a train to Megrelia — the historical region of Western Georgia. We will get off in Zugdidi where we’ll get a minibus to make it to Svaneti, the highest inhabited area in the Caucasus. On the way we’ll stop to see the Enguri hydroelectric dam, which is the biggest hydroelectric power station in the Caucasus.
On the way to Mestia — the capital of Svaneti — we will enjoy breathtaking views of mountain rivers, waterfalls, snowy peaks and flowering valleys. Upon arrival, we will check into a mini hotel and go for a walk along the cozy evening streets. Let’s try to count all the Svan towers — there are several dozens of them here, and we will even climb one.
After getting back to the hotel we’ll have to prepare the equipment for our hike and listen to the safety instructions.
Today the active part of our journey begins. We’ll pack our backpacks and get on the cable car to the top of Zuruldi Mountain rising above Mestia. From here we’ll follow the path offering stunning views of green hills and snow-capped peaks. We’ll see toy-like houses scattered far below in the valley and enjoy glares of sunlight on the slopes of the Main Caucasian Range.
The trail will lead us to the small village of Tsvirmi. It seems as if we have been transported to the Middle Ages — here, local people, as many centuries ago, slowly graze cattle, do housework, and use ox-drawn carts as transport. We’ll walk around the village, see the ancient towers and the church built in the 9th century.
In the evening we’ll set up a camp in a picturesque place near the stream.
In the morning we’ll pack up our tents and continue our journey. First, there will be a difficult hike along an unpaved dusty road towards Mount Tetnuldi, but then we’ll turn to a cozy path running through the forest and alpine meadows. After walking a few kilometers, we’ll reach the highland village of Adishi, hidden in the gorge of Adishchala River. The view of ancient Svan towers, red roofs of old houses and green wooded slopes makes a dazzling impression.
We’ll keep going a little further along the river and set up a camp on the riverbank. In the twilight we’ll light up the fire and watch the starry sky above.
In the morning we’ll walk to Adishi Glacier, where the Adishchala River originates. The size of the glacier is impressive: it spreads for almost two kilometers. We’ll touch the ancient ice that has been covering the green valley for many centuries, and admire the views of the snow-covered Tetnuldi.
Next challenge — climbing to Chkhunderi Pass. From the top we’ll be able to overlook mountain ranges, glaciers and lakes. On our way up we’ll have to ford the river. It will be an unforgettable experience! If the water is too high, we’ll cross the river on horseback.
From the Chkhunderi Pass we’ll go down to the valley of the Khaldeschala River and find a waterfall cascading down from rocky ledges. Moving along the valley, we’ll reach Khalde Village with a complicated history — in the 19th century it was completely destroyed. The guide will tell you how and why this happened.
For the night we’ll stop at a campsite in the valley of Enguri River. Here we’ll be able to take a shower and taste Georgian cuisine.
In the morning we’ll start our way to the famous highland village of Ushguli. It will be a light hike with no backpacks, they will be waiting for us in Mestia.
We’ll follow the caravan trail along the Enguri Valley. At the end of the way we’ll be rewarded by a stunning view of ancient buildings and towers against the background of the highest peak of Georgia — Shkhara. We’ll take a walking tour around the village, shoot multiple pictures, and then return to Mestia.
We’ll dedicate the evening to preparations and rest before the second part of our trek.
In the morning those who wish can ride a horse and enjoy the landscapes of Mestia (for an extra charge). Then we’ll visit Mikhail Khergiani Museum. Mikhail Khergiani is a famous mountaineer of Svan origin, the main pride of the region. The museum dedicated to him is located in a building of the 14th century, where the original furnishings of those times have been preserved. We’ll learn about the life of Svans several centuries ago, and about the history of mountaineering in Georgia.
Then we’ll leave Mestia and go up through the pine forest to the Koruldi lakes — several small basins scattered like diamonds at the foot of Mount Ushba. We’ll set up tents right on the shore and end the day observing snowy peaks lurking in the dark and mirror surface of the lakes.
Today we’ll get up early to conquer the top of Koruldi Mountain. Moving along the scree high above Mestia we’ll climb Koruldi. The top offers an impressive panorama of Mount Ushba that seems so close from here, and other peaks of the Main Caucasian Range.
In the afternoon we’ll descend back to Mestia and share our impressions of the trip at a farewell dinner.
In the morning we’ll take a minibus to Zugdidi. The Black Sea coast is not far from the city, so we’ll leave our backpacks in a storage room and hurry up to the beach. Anaklia is a young resort on the Black Sea, where we’ll spend a couple of hours relaxing on the beach and eating fruits.
Then we’ll return to Zugdidi and take a train to Tbilisi. On the way, we’ll observe the change of landscapes in different regions of Georgia: from forested hills and flowering meadows to agricultural fields, orchards and vineyards. The train arrives in Tbilisi at 23:20. From the railway station, you can take a taxi to the airport or a hotel (transfer is not included in the price).
We’ll meet in Tbilisi on the first day of the tour at 14:00. The exact address will be announced later. We’ll leave our bags at the hotel and start off to a walking tour around Tbilisi. The schedule of the first day may be changed depending on participants’ time of arrival.
The end of the program is at Tbilisi railway station on the 9th day of the tour at 23:20. We recommend buying return tickets for the night flights departing from Tbilisi after 02:00.

On the 2nd and 9th days we will travel by train in a 2nd class carriage with air conditioning, soft chairs, toilet, and free Wi-Fi (the journey takes about 6 hours).
The average daytime temperature is from +15 °C to +30 °C, at night in the mountains the temperature can drop to +5 °C. Rainfalls and strong winds are possible.
Note: Sometimes, the bathrooms in Georgian hotels are only equipped with a shower, but no shower cabin or tray. We recommend bringing slippers.
The price of the trip is based on double accommodation. If you are traveling alone, we will try to find a roommate for you from the tourists of our group, but we cannot guarantee this. Usually there is a roommate, but if there is not, you will need to pay extra for single accommodation.
If you need a single room and don't want to stay with anybody, specify this in the comments to your application.

However, we kindly ask you to follow up on this matter during the trip. If you have strict dietary restrictions, we recommend bringing suitable food with you or buy it on the spot.
Note: For cooking, we use boiled water from streams, springs and other water sources that we meet on the way. We also use these natural sources to replenish the drinking water supplies. If this option is not suitable for you, you can bring water disinfectants with you or boil the water before each hike.
The guide turned out to be a very pleasant woman, she treated everyone with understanding and told a lot during the process about the nuances of the hike, and Georgia in general, for which a huge thank you to her! She loves her job and knows her job. Knows the area, city and customs. She was friendly, but strict and didn’t let the group relax - that’s a plus! Discipline is extremely important for this format! Thank you!))
This program is a perfect combination of a four-day trek in the highlands of Georgia and a cultural program in Tbilisi and Mestia. We’ll spend four nights in tents overlooking the snow-white peaks of the Caucasus and the sparkling starry sky. All the difficulties along the way will be rewarded with views that only a few tourists can see.
We’ve planned the route in a way that allows to alternate long walking days and overnights in the wild with comfortable accommodation in hotels and campsites, where we can properly recover, take a shower, and enjoy homemade food. Therefore, the tour is suitable even for beginners with no experience of backpacking.
The cultural part of the program includes sightseeing walks around Tbilisi, Mestia and Ushguli, and in the final part of the tour we’ll have time to relax on the Black Sea coast!
