The participants will meet in Tbilisi (see the “Place & time of the group meeting” section). We'll check into a hotel and go for a walk through the oldest districts of Tbilisi — Avlabari and Metekhi. We’ll walk across the Bridge of Peace — a new symbol of the Georgian capital, and get on the cable car to the Narikala fortress, from where a wonderful view of the city center opens up. Also in the evening, those who wish can visit the famous Tbilisi baths with sulfur pools (for an additional charge).
Then we’ll have dinner at a restaurant and get back to our cozy hotel.
We will get up early to catch the train that will take us to the town of Zugdidi (travel time — 6 hours). Here we will transfer to a minibus and travel along a picturesque mountain road to the heart of Svaneti — Mestia (the journey will take 3 to 4 hours). On the way we’ll make a stop at a cafe near the Inguri Reservoir.
In Mestia we’ll check into a hotel, have dinner and go for a little walk to explore this wonderful town. It will become our “home” for the next few days.
Today we’ll spend time skiing at the Hatsvali resort, which is located right above Mestia. There are trails for any level of difficulty — from black to blue, with a total length of 5 kilometers. Recently, the Austrian-Swiss company Doppelmayr-Garaventa Group built a new gondola cableway with cabins for 10 people.
We’ll have lunch at the panoramic cafe at the top of Zuruldi with the stunning views of the mountain ranges and the main peak of Svaneti — the two-horned Ushba!
After skiing, we’ll go on a tour of Mestia and get acquainted with traditional architecture. Here are the famous Svan towers — the symbol of Svaneti. They are about a thousand years old! We will go up to one of the towers.
In the evening, those who still have energy can go listen to live music in one of the restaurants in the center.
Today we’ll continue exploring the slopes of Hatsvali resort. We’ll have lunch at the panoramic cafe and from the upper station of the cable car we’ll walk along the snowy ridge to enjoy the views of the peaks of Upper and Lower Svaneti.
In the evening we’ll visit the house and museum of Mikhail Khergiani, a world-famous Svan mountaineer and rock climber who tragically died at a competition in the Alps. Among the Svans there were athletes of the highest level, and Mikhail is one of the favorites and the pride of all Svaneti! The interior and household items have been preserved in this traditional stone Svan house since the 14th century. On the excursion we’ll learn not only about mountaineering and climbers, but also interesting facts about the life of the Svans in the old days.
Today everyone who wish will go skiing again. But for those who want to try something unusual, we’ll offer a new activity: snowshoeing. Our guide will take you along marvelous mountain paths, where you’ll see small settlements scattered among the endless snowy hills and feel the real charm of winter Svaneti.
In the afternoon we’ll visit the Museum of History and Ethnography of Svaneti, where we’ll be able to learn the culture and way of life of its people. The museum contains an extensive collection of artifacts: ancient icons and books, military equipment, and household items.
This time we will go to another ski resort — Tetnuldi. From the top of the mountain we will observe the incredible landscapes of the Main Caucasus Range. The slopes are suitable for both beginners and professionals. The total length of the trails is about 25 kilometers, the longest one is 3.5 km. Tetnuldi is equipped with modern chairlifts manufactured by the French company Poma.
One more day of skiing at the Tetnuldi resort.
On our last evening in Mestia we’ll take a farewell walk through the cozy streets of the town decorated with numerous lights and fresh fluffy snow.
In the morning we’ll get on a minibus and travel along the familiar route to Zugdidi. This time we’ll take a stroll around this pretty town. We’ll see a monumental building of the Dadiani Palace — the pride of the locals.
After lunch at the best restaurant in the city, we head to Kutaisi. We will arrive around 7 PM. From here, there will be independent transfers to the airport for evening flights or into the city for those wishing to continue their stay in Georgia.
