New Zealand is a fantastic destination for a family vacation. Here, children encounter real wonders they’ve only seen in cartoons and books before. We’ve specially adapted this itinerary for kids from 5 years old: we removed long transfers, winding mountain roads, and exhausting treks that are part of the adult program “All of New Zealand in 13 Days.”

We travel in a small group, stay in comfortable 4* hotels, take our time, and leave plenty of free time for play and independent discoveries.

What awaits children on this adventure:

  • Fairy tale and magic — a walk through the real Hobbiton with its round doors and cozy hobbit holes, plus the magical underground caves with a “starry sky” made of thousands of glowing fireflies.
  • Lots of animals — encounters with endemic birds and the ancient tuatara reptile, feeding salmon at a farm, and watching fur seals on the coast.
  • Maori culture — children will learn the energetic haka dance, hear legends, and try out the battle cries of the indigenous people.
  • Amazing nature — walks among bubbling geysers, colorful thermal lakes, and steaming hot springs.

We made the program shorter than the adult version and removed the longest transfers (including Dunedin and Moeraki Boulders) so the trip is comfortable for the whole family. While kids are excitedly searching for parrots, feeding fish, and exploring unusual places, parents can enjoy ocean views, a glass of wine at a small winery, and a relaxed pace.

Arrival in Auckland and Rest

On the first day, fly into Auckland on any convenient flight (details in the “Meeting Point and Time” section). This day is fully dedicated to recovering strength and adapting to the new time zone. Hotel check-in is available from 15:00. After settling in, you can take a relaxed walk around the city streets at your own pace. We recommend visiting the famous Sky Tower, which offers panoramic views of the city, volcanic hills, and harbors.

Auckland City Tour Kiwi Nursery Waitomo Caves

In the morning, you will go on a sightseeing tour of Auckland, known as the “City of Sails” due to its many yachts in the harbor. You will walk along Queen Street, enjoy views of the bay, and see Rangitoto Volcano covered in pohutukawa trees.

After the tour, you will head toward Rotorua with a stop at a nature park where children can feel like real explorers. They will search for the iconic kiwi bird and see the rare tuatara — an ancient reptile that has lived on Earth since the time of the dinosaurs.

Then, along the Great South Road, you will reach one of New Zealand’s most famous attractions — the Waitomo Glowworm Caves. Here you will take a boat ride under the stone vaults, where thousands of insects create a magical blue glow in the darkness.

By evening, you will arrive in Rotorua, the city of geysers and Maori culture.

Wai-O-Tapu Geothermal Park Lake Taupo and Maori Village

Today you will explore the surroundings of Rotorua. First, visit Wai-O-Tapu Geothermal Park — one of the most impressive places in New Zealand. You will see the bubbling Champagne Pool, the bright green “Devil’s Bath,” and watch steam and hot water bursting from the ground.

Those who wish can then take an exciting jet boat ride on the Waikato River, speeding close to waterfalls and making sharp turns.

Afterward, you will head to Lake Taupo, the largest lake in New Zealand. In the evening, you will immerse yourself in the authentic atmosphere of a Maori village, discovering traditional crafts, dances, and songs.

Hobbiton Flight to Wellington

Today you will step into the magical world of The Lord of the Rings. You will visit Hobbiton, where the films were shot. Colorful hobbit holes scattered across green hills, peaceful sheep, and the charming atmosphere create an unforgettable experience. The tour ends at the Green Dragon Inn, where you can relax by the fireplace, enjoy the views, and try local drinks.

Afterward, transfer to Auckland and fly to Wellington.

For New Year’s departures: The evening of this day will be the highlight of the trip — a festive New Year’s night. We recommend booking a table for New Year’s dinner in advance, as restaurants in the capital are very popular during this period.

Today is completely at your disposal to enjoy the southernmost capital in the world. You can start with a walk to the Parliament buildings and the famous “Beehive,” the largest wooden building in the Southern Hemisphere. Stroll along the lively Lambton Quay waterfront and climb Mount Victoria for the best panoramic views of the city and harbor.

Culture lovers can visit the Te Papa Tongarewa National Museum, while film fans may head to the legendary Weta Workshop, where effects for Avatar and The Lord of the Rings were created.

Ferry Across Cook Strait Winery Tour and Tasting

Free morning. After lunch, you will board a ferry to cross Cook Strait — one of the most scenic sea routes in the world. From the deck, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the emerald slopes and fjords of the Marlborough Sounds (UNESCO World Heritage Site).

On the South Island, a guide will meet you. From the port, you will head to the country’s main wine region — Marlborough. You will visit one of the leading wineries, enjoy views of endless vineyards against the mountains, and have the opportunity to taste the famous Sauvignon Blanc (paid separately).

You can choose a marine adventure:

  • Whale watching by boat (3 hours)
  • 30-minute scenic flight to see whales from the air
  • Helicopter flight with landing on the coast (45 minutes)
  • Swimming with dolphins (for experienced swimmers only)

Please indicate your preferred activity when booking. All activities are weather-dependent. If canceled by the operator, you will receive a full refund.

Christchurch Nature Park Transfer to Methven

In the morning, explore Christchurch — the most “English” city on the South Island. Walk through the lush Botanical Gardens, along the picturesque Avon River, and see the unique Cardboard Cathedral.

Then visit a nature park where children can observe playful kea and kaka parrots, rare kiwi and takahe birds, and the ancient tuatara. The bravest can feed huge New Zealand eels by hand.

In the evening, transfer to the quiet town of Methven at the foot of the mountains. Relax in open-air thermal pools: kids can splash in warm pools while adults unwind in hot springs with stunning mountain views.

Lake Tekapo Mount Cook Area

Today you will travel to the Mackenzie region — land of golden fields and majestic mountains. Stop at a small cheese factory to try unique deer milk cheese.

The second half of the day will be spent at the turquoise waters of Lake Tekapo, one of the most photogenic spots in the country. See the famous Church of the Good Shepherd. Optional Grand Traverse flight over national parks, glaciers, and turquoise lakes (paid separately).

Later, drive through Twizel with breathtaking views of Mount Cook, the highest mountain in New Zealand. End the day at a salmon farm, where kids can feed the fish themselves.

Free Day in Queenstown

In the morning, head south through mountain ranges and arrive in Queenstown — the adventure capital of New Zealand! The whole day is free for your own discoveries. Enjoy lakeside walks, ride the cable car for panoramic views, or try extreme activities: bungee jumping, jet boating, paragliding, kayaking, horse riding, or downhill scooter rides.

In the evening, optional visit to Walter Peak Farm for a traditional dinner and farm show with sheepdog demonstrations and shearing.

All activities on this day are paid separately. Evening transfer to Te Anau on the shore of a large glacial lake.

Cruise on Milford Sound

Today you will head to the legendary land of fjords or “Land of Shadows”. Then the road will pass through protected lands surrounded by high mountains and evergreen forest. You will see glacial lakes, noisy waterfalls, and mountain passes.

Next — a 2-hour cruise through the famous Milford Sound fjords — the very landscapes that adorn the best postcards of the country. The scale of nature here is breathtaking: cliffs soar up to two kilometres, and the depth of the sound reaches four hundred metres. No wonder Kipling called this place the “eighth wonder of the world”, and according to Maori legends, these landscapes were created by gods, not glaciers.

After the cruise, return to Te Anau.

The Most Beautiful Road in New Zealand Gold Rush Town Tour Ends

On the final day, return to Queenstown along one of the most scenic roads in the country, enjoying mountain valleys and crystal-clear lakes.

On the way, you will visit a small town from the gold rush era where children can feel like real gold prospectors. Right by the river where the gold fever once raged, the authentic huts of the first settlers are still preserved, and in cosy small cafés you can listen to stories about gold miners over a cup of coffee.

After there will be a group transfer to Queenstown and farewell.

Place & time of the group meeting:

Arrival

On the first day of the tour, you should arrive at Auckland Airport (AKL) at any time that suits you. A transfer will be provided via an airport shuttle (a 12-seater minivan) with an English-speaking driver to your hotel. You will meet your guide on the morning of the second day of the tour.

We recommend arriving in Auckland 1-2 days earlier to acclimate and rest after a long flight.

Departure

On the final day, participants arrive in Queenstown, and take international flight home. It is necessary to book return tickets for evening flights or flights departing the next day.

Tickets:

On the first day of the tour, you should arrive in Auckland (AKL) on any convenient flight and take a shuttle from the airport to your hotel. You will meet your guide on the second day of the tour.

We recommend booking flights that arrive in the first half of the day to allow time for rest and acclimatization after your long-haul journey.

Many airlines fly to New Zealand. Please note that some routes include a layover in Australia, which requires obtaining an Australian transit visa. Other airlines fly via Asia.

Generally, Chinese carriers offer the most budget-friendly fares.

Our partners in New Zealand advise against taking the cheapest flights. It is better to choose tickets with the possibility of a refund or exchange of dates.

Departure

On the final day, participants arrive in Queenstown, and take international flight home. Return tickets should be booked for evening flights or flights departing the following day.

NOTE: We kindly ask you not to purchase the tickets until the manager sends you a confirmation and guarantees that the tour will take place.

Visa & currency:

Currency

Only New Zealand dollars (NZD) are accepted for payment, so upon arrival you will need to exchange USD/EUR for NZD.

Transport:

You will travel along the route in a Mercedes Sprinter or a minivan (for smaller groups). The itinerary also includes a cruise on the ship in Milford Sound, ferry crossings and an internal flight to Wellington.

Lodging:

We will stay in 4 hotels* in double or twin rooms with private facilities.

Note: The price of the trip is based on double accommodation. If you are traveling alone, we will try to find a roommate for you from the tourists of our group, but we cannot guarantee this. Usually there is a roommate, but if there is not, you will need to pay extra $860 for single accommodation.

If you prefer single accommodation, please indicate it in your application.

Also, please let the manager know your preferred accommodation type with a child:

  • Two large beds in one room;
  • A bed in the room and a sofa;
  • A bed in the room and an extra bed;
  • A room with a living room: a bed in the bedroom and a bed in the living room;
  • A room with a living room: a bed in the bedroom and a sofa in the living room;
  • Two bedrooms: a bed in one and a bed in the other.

The final price of a child's tour depends on the selected room and is calculated individually.

Accommodation Examples

Weather:

The period from late November to February in New Zealand marks the transition from late spring to the height of summer. This is the warmest and sunniest time of year, ideal for outdoor activities.

From December to February, the average daytime temperature ranges from +20°C to +25°C, though it can reach +30°C in the north. Evenings are typically between +15°C and +20°C, but brief rain showers and sudden drops to 0°C are possible, especially in the mountainous regions of the South Island.

In March and April, it is slightly cooler, with mild daytime temperatures of +18°C to +21°C and nighttime temperatures ranging from +5°C to +15°C.

New Zealand's weather is characterized by strong winds and high UV levels. There is a high risk of sunburn even in the shade. The weather can be highly changeable due to weather fronts and occasional tropical cyclones.

Requirements for tourists:

This program DOES NOT HAVE A SPECIFIC DIFFICULTY CATEGORY. The itinerary is accessible to anyone without medical contraindications to moderate physical activity.

You can travel with a suitcase on this trip; however, for daily excursions, we recommend bringing a small daypack (10–40 liters) for essentials such as water, travel documents, a camera, and a rain jacket.

Children are allowed to participate from the age of 5 and only if accompanied by their parents.

Required vaccination:

New Zealand is one of the safest countries in the world! NO vaccinations are required for entry.

Required personal equipment:

The checklist #9 will help you prepare to this trip

Travel features:

Meals

During the tour participants are responsible for their own meals at local cafes and restaurants.

Note: If you have an intolerance or allergy to any of the products, please notify the manager in advance. We will pass this information on to the guide or accommodations. However, we kindly ask you to follow up on this matter during the trip. If you have strict dietary restrictions, we recommend bringing suitable food with you or buy it on the spot.

Mobile Connection & Internet

Internet in New Zealand can be expensive; therefore, some hotels may have slow connection speeds or limited access time. This most commonly occurs in major cities. If you need to stay connected at all times, we recommend purchasing a local SIM card or eSIM for more affordable calling and data rates.
